Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

Join a high-performing team maintaining specialized armoured vehicles. This role combines heavy diesel mechanics with precision fitting in a clean, safety-first workshop.


Core Responsibilities

  • Maintenance: Routine servicing of engines, transmissions, brakes, and gearboxes.

  • Technical Repairs: Diagnosing and fixing complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

  • Specialized Fleet: Carrying out repairs, inspections, and upgrades to Bushmaster vehicles.

  • Problem Solving: Adapting technical solutions to improve repair procedures and processes.

  • Safety & Admin: Strict adherence to OH&S, maintaining safety records, and housekeeping.

The Environment & Physicality

  • Access: Climbing ladders into cabs and working in/under large armoured hulls.

  • High Reach: Utilizing fixed platforms for high-reach maintenance areas.

  • Lifting Limits: Strict 15kg manual lift limit; overhead cranes and team lifts are required for heavier items.

  • Tooling: Use of heavy hand tools with high-force push/pull requirements.


Mandatory Requirements

To be eligible for this role within the Defence sector, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Trade Qualification: Must be a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Mechanical Fitter.

  • Citizenship: You must be an Australian Citizen.

  • Security Clearance: Ability to pass and maintain an Australian Federal Police (AFP) check.
